    Cool Port Forwarding Problem

    Hi,

I have my quadro setup and working reasonably well, noticing that my pop3 port does not stay open and seems to close intermitently. If I toggle the rule by setting as disabled and then enable again it works straight away. This is ok for the moment, but obviously I don't want to have to do this every however often.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Tim

I never listened about such problem before. How do you check that the port is closed? Does it open itself after some time?
Theoretically the only condition when this port (and any other port too) can be closed, is a constant big load on system (for example, heavy call traffic). And as soon as the load will decrese, the port will open again.

    Davrays,

The only way I can come to the conclusion the port forwarding is not working is because when I disable and re-enable it works ok, changing nothing else in my network.

I can confirm this would be at night with no load on the system that I was trying.
It does not seem to rectify itself from what I can see.

Ok, lets understand better what the Port Forwarding rule for POP3 is used for. Typically those forwarding rules are used to keep a server behind the Quadro. I.e. if you have a POP3 server behind the Quadro and you want the Quadro to appear as a POP3 server to the outside world, you have to use Incomint Trafic Port Forwarding on POP3 port.
It that the case with your installation?

If you are just using a POP3 client behind the Quadro, and want to get mails from some server at the Quadro's WAN, then you don't need any POP3 rule, as this should work, as soon as you have Firewall and NAT enabled.

Which of those two scenarios do you have?

I have a POP3 mail server I am hosting behind the quadro which is my router
