Thread: one way communication...

    Exclamation one way communication...

    Hi all,
since upgrading my customers Quadro 16xi to firmware 5.0.3 they have been reporting the following problem:

Internet running slow or not at all ( The Quadro is acting as the DHCP Server to the PC LAN as well as for phones )

When making calls ( internal or external ) the called person cannot hear the calling party's voice.

The only solution up to now has been to reboot the Quadro. This appears to be happening every few days.

I've noticed the ISDN lines losing SYNC a few times but surely this is not causing the problem. Also I have PNP turned on for the IP phones but the Quadro is reporting that the phone firmware upgrade is failing.

Can anyone please shed some light on this?

    Many thanks,

    Paul

Does anyone even know why the automatic firmware upgrade of the IP phones might fail?

This is the error I'm getting:

    New Sun Oct 12 19:05:44 2008
3 PNPIPPHONES firmware update failed Firmware update impossible for snom300 MAC= 00:04:13:25:5D:74 current FW version = 6.5.10 recommended version = 7.3.4 IP Line Settings

Paul do a manual tftp / auto update of the SNOM handsets to version 7.1.30 then the Quadro will take over... to version 7.3.4 at least.

    Kevin,
thanks for the advice. I've turned off the firmware auto update feature yesterday and now problems since. I'll do what you suggest the next time I'm on site.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Paul, do you mean that all the problems disapeared after you switched OFF the automatic update?
One more question: what is 5.0.3? Such image version was never publicly released, as far as I know..

    Ray,
sorry I was mistaken about the firmware version, it is the latest one out. I made the change yesterday and since no problems, too early to tell though if this was the issue yet.

    Thanks again,

    Paul

    PING 10.68.148.1 (10.68.148.1): 56 data bytes

What seems very strange is the "operation not permitted" on ping!!!!

    Any ideas?

Perhaps to open a ticket with the relavent developer logs attached might help you in your endeavours... failing that type away for thoughts...

The ping might be being blocked .. as a stealth type setup .. is that item checked in the quadro or by your firewall or isp ?

    Finally I had to reboot the Quadro 16xi, after that it seems to be fine and the ping output is as follows;

    PING 10.68.148.1 (10.68.148.1): 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 10.68.148.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=254 time=3.1 ms
    64 bytes from 10.68.148.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=254 time=2.5 ms
    64 bytes from 10.68.148.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=254 time=2.5 ms
    64 bytes from 10.68.148.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=254 time=2.4 ms

    --- 10.68.148.1 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max = 2.4/2.6/3.1 ms

Guys, does anyone have an idea of what might be happening? It seems that the devices is locking up somehow, especially the IP stack!!!!

    Kevin,
    thanks again :-)

How do I log a ticket? I can give them reomote access after that so I'm sure they can look at the logs then.

    Thanks,
